About Wesley Traditions

Wesley Traditions is Bama Wesley’s Sunday morning worship service. Originally a local church, The Belief Experiment, Wesley Traditions offers an intimate, more traditional worship setting for adults in the community as well as students who are unable to attend The Rising on Tuesday nights or prefer a more traditional worship environment. Wesley Traditions also provides a forum for students who may be feeling a call to vocational ministry to gain experience and feedback preaching and leading worship under the guidance of Bama Wesley’s pastoral staff.

What to Expect

When and Where

Wesley Traditions meets in the Chapel at Bama Wesley beginning at 10:30am on Sunday mornings, and the service lasts for approximately an hour. Parking is available on the streets surrounding Bama Wesley, in the Bama Wesley parking lot, and in the Regions Bank lot between Bama Wesley and Bryant Drive.

What to Expect in the Service

Though more traditional in style, Wesley Traditions encourages you to “come as you are”. Dress is casual, and both students and adults from the community are invited to attend. Music in Wesley Traditions is a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs, and has a more acoustic feel than The Rising on Tuesday nights. Every week we celebrate Holy Communion (the Eucharist), and you can find more about our United Methodist beliefs on Holy Communion by clicking here.

Wesley Traditions is specifically designed to create a worship environment for students and adults alike. Therefore, childcare is offered during the service for children under the age of 5. Our volunteer team is trained and screened in accordance with Bama Wesley’s Safe Sanctuaries policy, a copy of which is available by clicking here.

The Wesley Traditions Team

Rev. Wade Langer

Campus Pastor

Wade is the founding pastor of The Belief Experiment, formerly The Capstone United Methodist Church.  He grew up in Trussville, Alabama and felt a call to ministry in his teenage years.  He earned a B.A. degree in Religion from Birmingham-Southern College in 2006, and a Master of Divinity Degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 2009. Before being appointed to start The Belief Experiment, Wade was a youth pastor for five years, and an Associate Minister at First United Methodist Church of Trussville for four years, where he served as the primary pastor for contemporary worship and student ministries

Rev. John Fleischauer

Executive Pastor
(256) 606-1388

John is originally from Decatur, Alabama, and graduated from Alabama in 2014 with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a depth study in emergency management. As Executive Pastor, John’s role is to oversee the business and operational aspects of Bama Wesley, as well as serving as the primary communicator in the Sunday morning Wesley Traditions service. In addition to serving at Bama Wesley, John serves in the Office of Connectional Ministries and Leadership Development of the North Alabama Conference. When he’s not busy being a professional Methodist, John enjoys travel (usually by train), photography, and drinking more coffee than most doctors have advised is safe for normal humans.

Ashlee Williams

Fellowship Intern and Wesley Traditions Media Coordinator

Ashlee is the media coordinator for Wesley Traditions, and the fellowship intern for Bama Wesley. As the media coordinator, Ashlee is responsible for promoting Bama Wesley to UA students and the community alike. In addition to working at Wesley Traditions, Ashlee serves as the Fellowship Intern for Bama Wesley, where she and the rest of the Fellowship team organize events that give students the opportunity to spend time and develop relationships with each other. Originally from Aurora, Illinois, Ashlee will graduate with her B.A. in Advertising in May of 2017. When she’s not living at Wesley, you can find her at Reese Phifer as a CIS Ambassador, spending time on the Quad with her puppy, or reminiscing about her days in the Disney College Program, where she worked as a character attendant and ate far too many Mickey bars.

David Conour

Worship Leader

David is the worship leader for both Wesley Traditions and the Rising. Born in Vestavia Hills, AL, David will graduate with his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in December of 2017 and will continue to pursue an MBA at the University of Alabama in 2018. David’s passion for music first began at age 11 when he picked up a guitar for the first time. Throughout high school, he developed his passion as a worship leader for the Vestavia Hills UMC youth band. His love of worship leadership, as well as his United Methodist upbringing, ultimately led him to his current leadership positions at Bama Wesley. In his spare time, David enjoys listening to music, going to the lake, and playing video games with his friends.
