Wesley Kicks off a New School Year

They’re finally back!

There’s nothing quite like the start of the fall semester in Tuscaloosa. After three months of summer slowdown, the whole city is bustling with activity and energy again because the students have returned. And for those of you who came through Wesley, you know that means about 10 days of 24/7 outreach and Week of Welcome events. (I know for some of you, even that phrase may still trigger you!)

This year, as the University welcomes 8,000 new freshmen, we’re hard at work trying to help them connect with a message of hope and purpose that will help guide them during their years at the Capstone. In this newsletter, I’d like to share some of the big changes we’re making to Wesley this year, as well as the cool things we’re doing to reach new students. Plus, I’d like to invite you to pray over each one of our events and programs. Maybe you can even use this newsletter as a daily guide for your own prayer times!

But first, a huge announcement…

Worship Returns to Wesley!

Due to the mandatory space restrictions during the pandemic, Wesley moved its weekly worship event to FUMC Tuscaloosa, who has graciously hosted us since 2020. The partnership with FUMC has been, and continues to be, a huge blessing to us. In order to better reach students on campus, however, we felt the need to return to our own building. This semester, that’s finally happening– not just once a week, but twice!

Our new weekly schedule for the year focuses on two events:

  • Sunday Night Common Meal (6pm)
  • Wednesday Night Wesley Worship (8pm, with dinner before).

The Common Meal features an entirely student-led prayer service that leads into Communion and a shared meal, and Worship offers a classic worship experience catered to students. We’re incredibly excited to offer both a Sunday evening service option and a midweek boost for students on campus.

2025 Week of Welcome Events
Please join us in prayer over each of these events! (Full information can be found for each on our home page)

Pastor-Led Disciple Bible Study

This semester, I’ll be leading a group of 10-15 students through Disciple Bible Study. Wesley is proud to help students discover both a love for scripture and a deep, academic study of it. In my opinion, Disciple Bible Study is a perfect tool to help students find both. The cost of the study is $45/participant. If you’d like to sponsor a student taking this course, designate your gift on the giving page of this site.

Gameday Tailgate for Students/Alumni

Finally, we’re excited that for every home game, we’re opening up space in the building and on the patio for our students and alumni to tailgate with us. Be sure to drop by Wesley if you’re coming to a game and say hi! (And if you’d like information on parking, please email us at [email protected]).

As you can see, we’re off to an exciting start this semester! As we head into this new season, we’re so grateful for all the ways you continue to bless us through prayers to financial support. We truly couldn’t do all this work without you.

Thanks again for all your support. Hope to see you soon!
